Completed Waite Family
« on: Friday 10 October 08 14:41 BST (UK) »
Is anyone working on the Waite family -
descendents of William Ogle Waite b 1794 Berwick and Mary b 1797 Tweedmouth?

Perhaps we could share info and knock down a few brick walls!

Hello, I have a Hannah Ogle in my tree who was born in Scotland 1791 and married Robert Porter. I cannot find a marriage record, but their sons were baptized at the Shawls Lane Chapel Berwick Upon Tweed. I have noticed the Ogle Waites and wondered if they were linked to her?

Cumberland; Laidler
Wales; Evans, Walters, Morgan, Thomas

Hi Lisa,
Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Just picked up your post. It looks as though we have an ancestor in common.
I will pm you with more details.

Hi, Sorry for replying on here but I don't know how to reply to the PM, I tried doing what the help section suggests but it doesn't seem to give me the option to reply.
I dont think we have made contact before but I do have a tree on the ancestry.co.uk and Genes Reunited sites so it is a possibilty. I have been struggling with Mary Ann's parentage, in different census returns it states she is granddaughter and daughter of William Ogle Waite but I would say she is more likely to be his granddaughter as he already has a daughter named Mary Margaret. I initially thought Mary Ann was the daughter of Eleanor but I now think maybe her Mother was called Jane after finding a Jane Wait born 1821 in Northumberland in the 1841 census living in Glendale and a death for Jane Waite in 1846 Bellingham. Mary Ann's mother has caused me a lot of thinking though!! I do however have quite alot of the rest of William and Mary's children's families filled in. I havent been able to find a birth or marriage for William Ogle himself though which is disheartening. I have read on the internet about a William Waite who bought Castlelaw in about 1770  and his father also William owned and kept records of the fishery at Sandstell and wonder if there was some connection as Sandstell and New-water Haugh are not too far apart.

Yes, you should be OK to use the pm system now.  However, for the benefit of others it is good to have extra information on the post then it can be found by researchers in the future.
