Charles Cooper 1800-1885
« on: Friday 10 October 08 17:59 BST (UK) »
Can anybody help with the marriage of Charles Cooper, he was baptised in Beckley in 1800 and buried in Beckley in 1885, but so far I have not found either of his marriages.  ???

His first wife Mary ? b abt 1805 d. 1848.
His second wife appears on the 1861 census, Caroline b. abt 1804 Northiam d. 1887 Beckley.

Any help with this would be much appreciated and any other information one might have about Charles and his ancestors.
Thank you
 :)

In 1851 Charles is a widower with two unmarried kids, his sister and a servant so the second marriage must be after that.  It would not take too long to search the index to find it.

The 1861 census, which you have, gives you quite a good clue about Caroline in that there is a step daughter named Mary Ann Smith living with them.   This makes it fairly clear that he married a Caroline Smith so you have both names to check in the index.   Her maiden name should appear on the marriage certificate with luck.  Smith formerly x.   Unless Caroline had married several times of course!

In 1851 and 41 Caroline is in Kent.   Daughters Mary Ann and Frances with her in 1851 and in 41 I think she is in the household of Sarah Smith age 75.  Caroline 35, Mary 11, Frances 10 and Sarah 5 - all b in county whereas Caroline should be not but the girls' names are right.  HO107 466 6/21 3    Worth investigating further.  Sarah may be her mother in law.

Hi Trouble
Are you there?  You were online but have not responded.  Have a look at baptisms on the IGI at www.familysearch.org for Mary Ann, Frances and Sarah Smith in Kent across the right years and you will find the names of both their parents.  A further search for a marriage will show one which is actually member submitted but I have checked it on the SMI and it is correct.
