Vere Caldwell died in a strange accident. His ghost is said to haunt the house where it occurred.

Hi Sandy

If you search on the LG website - http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/AdvancedSearch.aspx?geotype=London - using 'vere caldwell' as the exact phase you find three entries of his promotions.

If you haven't seen LG entries for officers before, 'vice' means 'replacing'.

Hi Ken

Thank you for the link to the London Gazette.

Didn't know it started that early.

Only ever used it for WW1 entries.  :)

Much appreciated.
