Genes Un/united
« on: Thursday 16 October 08 00:00 BST (UK) »
Hi chatters,
Anyone having problems with the Genesre/un-united dinasaur. I cant load the B***** trees. They just dont display and i cant scroll around them, I wait for hours and strange things happen and i get diverted back to the E Mail message its a farce. I do have cookie controls in place which I wont disable but I have got all the latest Adobe etc. installed and I am not having problems with other sites
I dont put mine there just use it for messaging but this site seems cluttered and unusable. What do others think? How best to display data.. to share. I favour Ancestry.co.uk but for some people its expensive and I keep it running to see other peoples trees if they allow me. Are genesrunited having problems - is there just too much data for them to cope with!!!!...or is it me! Or doesnt my anti virus and firewalls like this site ..there is a lot of advertizing on it.    M.Ann

Hi M.Ann,

I have just gone into GR, and it's working OK for me.

I have never been able to access large Tree's, and get a script message if I do.
I have to clear of pretty smart otherwise the screen will freeze.

So are you having trouble with large Tree's? Have you tried accessing the ones you normally get to view?

I actually prefer GR Tree's to Ancestry.

I hate the trees on GR, any one of my contacts trees that has above about 200 people on it and I just can't load it, I don't think the problem is your end at all. I think GR have just never sorted out the function on their site.

Me too.  I just can't get my head around any other format.  I've yet to find another program that displays the tree in the Genes Reunited format where you can see siblings along side each other.
East London:
Happe/Hoppe (St. Georges in the East)
Stanley (middle name Thurston)
Rondeau (Spitalfields and Salford)
Jones (Bishopsgate - Thomas, Ostrich Feather Manufacturer)
Wood (London City)
McDermott (Londonderry and Stepney)
Upcraft (Bethnal Green)
Chidgey (Shoredtich)
Grim (Bethnal Green)
Row (Mast makers in Wapping)
Spurden (Stepney and Pancras)
Glibbery (Bishopsgate)

Although I don't have problems with the trees I've found the site has been extremely slow for the past couple of weeks, have just e-mailed them to see if there's a problem

I had a contact that wouldn't believe that I couldn't view her Tree because it was so large, as no one else had mentioned it to her.

She then checked with her other contacts and only then believed me when they confirmed it was true :-[    ...you can really go off some people.

I find it quite odd that the Tree owner can view their Tree of over a 1000 but the contact can't ???

I have contacted GR on many occasions about this but it's not a priority for them.........BUT they still charge me the same fee when I get only half of the service

Exactly Ambers, I have complained too but get no joy from them at all.

Toni - above rootschatter gave me access to her tree as we have several Sussex matches but I've not been able to view the whole tree, I have to travel up the lines person by person.  :(
