1851 / 1861 - George Spurway Bridgwater
« on: Tuesday 01 February 05 14:23 GMT (UK) »
Can someone please check the 1851 and 1861 censuses for George Spurway in Bridgewater.

He would be 41 or 42 in 1851 and was known to be an Inn keeper in the White Horse St Mary's Street Bridgewater in 1859.
His wife was Elizabeth and one child was Ellen Jane aged about 4.
Thank you.

Hello Heather B

Thank you for the reply. It is definatly the family I'm looking for. I knew they also had a daughter Eliza but didn't know about Mary Ann.
I don't know what happened to the age of George?

I'm not sure about the other families either? More research needed I think.
It would be wonderful if I can find him again in 1861 as there was a death in 1859 of a George Spurway buried in Spaxton aged 49?
It doesn't show him as deceased on Ellen Jane's marriage in 1872 which is confussing me a little
Thanks again
Keith

You'll like this, I think :)

Browsing around I have found a site with Pawlett parish records and there is a baptism for George Spurway to William and Ann 21 May 1809

Have a browse yourself - http://www.durtnall.org.uk/Somerset%20Pages.htm

I found another sibling of George and a couple of deaths :'(
I didn't find any marriages but knew the fathers name was William from the marriage cert of George.
I'll look elsewere including Langport.
Cheers Keith :-*

Hi Keith (and HeatherB, if you see this post)

I was doing a search in the site for the name Spurway and found these posts. It so happens that the Peter and Thomas Spurway mentioned here living beside each other are older brothers of my husband's gg grandmother Eliza Spurway (their father was named Thomas and apparently their grandfather was Peter, though I haven't confirmed this).
I've really just started to research this family so I haven't found any connection to your George. Have you found any connection? There didn't seem to be many Spurways in north Somerset back then, so I was just curious.

And Heather, if you happen to see this post, thank you so much for this bit of info.

Best of luck in the ongoing search
Jennifer
