Where does on obtain a birth certificate for Lincolnshire?
« on: Tuesday 18 May 04 21:51 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I hope I am not getting too impatient too soon, but where would I be able to get a birth certificate in Lincolnshire?  I am looking for one for my grandfather who was born on Aug. 13, 1865

Hi Waralan  ;D;

I had a look on Free BMD and found 3 entries for an Edward Rutter born Lincolnshire -

Sept, Quarter 1860          Place       Volume       Page

Edward William Rutter    Caistor          7a           556

June Quarter 1890

Edward Rutter                Goole           7a           731

Sept. Quarter 1899

Edward Rutter                 Goole         7a             875

Certificates can be obtained from -

               Lincolnshire County Council
               25 West Street,
               Long Sutton,
               Spalding PE12 9BN
               England

On the 1881 census I found -

Edward W. Rutter, age 20, a Marine Engineer Apprentice, born Laceby, Lincoln 1861.  If this is of interest you can find it on the LDS site -

                     Source Information

Dwelling                                             35 Hedon Road
Census Place                                  Drypool, York, England
Family History Library Film              1342148
PRO REf.                                          RG!!
Piece/Folio                                      4753/64
Page Number                                  25

Hope this is of help.
Regards Aaron :)

Aaron,
The Edward Rutter that I think is the right one would fall under Goole 7a 731.
How does one from America order a certificate?
Thanks a million for your help.

Kazza,
Looking back over the list, google 7a875 could also apply.  Is there any way I can know for sure, or do I just have to take my chance?

If I may jump in here again, I have one last question.
I see all payments are to be made in sterling, however since I only have access to dollars, how do I make the transaction?

My reading of the info on the GRO site is that online orders can be made only by UK residents. Certificates to be sent outside of the UK need to be paid for by IMO's.

Altrnatively, from somewhere like uk.yahoo.com, search for birth/marriage certificates and see if any sites offer to do this for you and sent it on. (Paying by credit card). www.ebay.co.uk may also have someone offering this servide (at a premium, but you can use your credit card on PayPal).

Pauline,
First of all, thanks for your tip.  However when I went to e-bay, I hit a brick wall.
This may be a stupid question, but do you think a money order in US dollars would work?

Did you read the GRO site info at all? They require money orders in Sterling.
