Hi all,
First of all thanks for putting up with an inpatient Yankee.
Having said that, I have a record of an Edward Rutter and an Eliza Rutter sailing into New York on Oct. 10 1884.
While I am not sure, I feel that Eliza is Edward's mother, as she was born in 1822.
Rutter name

Ok firstly although Doncaster is now in South Yorkshire it never used to be.  Doncaster was always a part of the west riding of Yorkshire.  Yorkshire was split into three ridings those being East West and North.  These were later further split (1974 ) into a number of other counties.  HUmberside grabbing some of the east riding and Lincolnshire.

Secondly it may be worth checking with 1837online.com or the GRO index elsewhere that the birth was registered in Doncaster and not at one of the staelite registration points like Bawtry which is in Nottinghamshire.  Yes it gets even more complicated, but if I can help with a baptism lookup or something similar dont hesittate to email me
