Hi Kish,

Whereabouts do you live?  If you are in WA the State Library will be able to help with convict records and electoral rolls.

Also I doubt that he was a lawyer as his record states that he was only semi literate which probably meant he could read but not write.  It probably should have read sawyer.

Are you wanting to know about his life prior to his conviction or after he received his Ticket of Leave?  Do you have a death certificate or marriage certificate?

Hi Kish,

Forgot to say in the last answer that his trial records may be available in the Hampshire County Record office at Southampton in England.  They also hold military records for Winchester where the Army base was located.  http://www3.hants.gov.uk/archives

Hi Andcarrad

No luck with the website, it wont load keep getting DS ERROR :(

Found some information on his sentencing in the library.  31 October 1849 recieved Wakefield.  So now I have 2 sentence dates.  the 1849 one and the one that was on convict records from Fremantle prison 26 Feb 1848.  Only thing I can think is he had two trials because it was rape :(

Left England 28 feb 1850 arrived 1 Jun 1850

Cheers

Hi Kish,

I don't know whether that other date is a sentencing date.  I think it indicates when he was received in Wakefield prison after his trial.  I don't think it is possible under English law to be tried twice for the same crime.

If you can't get onto the Archives website using the address I gave, try going through Genuki
www.genuki.com.uk as this is the main site for English research.
