1851 census - out liberty
« on: Tuesday 21 October 08 21:45 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find a family on the 1851 census whom I believe lived in Out Liberty.  When I went to the census parish listing on the census, Out Liberty was missing - does anyone know if these records have been lost?

Morning Mad Moo and thank you for getting back to me.  I am not familiar with the area so that I don't know.  On the 1861 census the parish of Out Liberty exists, on the 1841 I think it is refered to as St Marys Without.

I have posted before regarding the parish and it's location on a different thread and got some very helpful replies pinpointing it

If you have any ideas as to any alternative names I would be very grateful

I always thought it was another name for New Hedges.

The current Community of St Mary Out Liberty lies between the significantly more populated
Communities of Tenby and Saundersfoot. Running through the centre of the community, along the
B4316, is the elongated settlement of New Hedges. In the north of the community the Broadfield,
Rushy Lake and CwmGwennol areas of the settlement of Saundersfoot currently lie within the
community. New Hedges has a good range of community services and facilities despite its close
proximity to both Tenby and Saundersfoot; they include a church, public house, post office, shop,
and a village hall.

Hi lambkin.

New Hedges is the area that I am looking for - I have rechecked on the parish list for both 1861 and 1851 and New Hedges is not listed as a parish.  The parish of St Mary In Liberty and St Mary Out Liberty are both listed on the 1861.  1851 just lists St Mary In Liberty.  1841 lists St Mary Within and St Mary Without.  This leads me to believe that maybe the returns for this area maybe missing as the years which flank the 1851 seem to recognise it as a parish.

Thanks for this - so back to the original question -- do you know if the parish records for 1851 are missing?

Just thought I would complete this thread for further reference.  The parish of Out Liberty is missing from Ancestry on the 1851 census.  I recently went to the Pembrokeshire records office in Haverford West and viewed the census collection.  There were only 6 pages but my relatives were clearly listed.
