Church Columbarim
« on: Friday 24 October 08 23:05 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anybody know of a "list" or website where I can find which Churches in NSW have a Columbarim (hope that spelling is correct).

I am finding when I contact a Crematorium that the ashes have been collected, and by chance found that one family had placed the ashes in a Columbarium at a Church they attended.

Now I am wondering if others have also placed the ashes in a church Columbarium.

Regards

Cass

correct spelling is Columbarium
hope the link proves helpfull allthough it doesn't answer your question

A lot of  people collect  the ashes to scatter elsewhere or even keep at  home. (My mum is  in an area of our garden  planted with all her favourite plants and a few ornaments)

This can be a fairly common practice, and people can do a couple of things with loved one's ashes.

When a friend of mine very sadly committed suicide, his grieving family scattered some of his ashes in the garden of the family home where he grew up and laid up the rest in the columbarium in their local church.  Both rituals were very moving.  Although this church was in a small country town, the columbarium was quite extensive!  Lots of people seem to have ended up there.  I don't know how you'd find out which churches have them, though.
