Watts Thomas-Wistantow
« on: Saturday 25 October 08 18:51 BST (UK) »
I'm researching the Watts line. Currently drawn a blank at Thomas Watts b.1833 Wistantow. He married Mary ? of Clun and later moved to Leominster and became a police constable.
Any Watts leads in the area appreciated. :)

:D Goodness Daisy where did all that come from? So grateful to you, although some dates a bit strange, Thomas seems to have been christened three years before he was born!
What is 'Broken Stones'? is that a place/house name?

Thanks once again, brilliant help.

Hi,

I found the info on Ancestry, Findmypast and Familysearch.

Broken Stones is the address given in the 1841 census, it doesn't seem to be a house as there are more than one households dittoed with this address. The description of the enumeration district is,

"That of the parish of Wistantow on the left side of Wistantow Lane to Whittals & Bushmoor, together with Broken Stones and the village of Weststone and the other parts of ??moor Common."

The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre is just down the road from Wistanstow at Craven Arms, they might be able to tell you more about Broken Stones :)

If I have found the right family, I think the christening date is right. Although Thomas is 48 (b.1833) in 1881, in 1891 he is 60 and in 1901 he is 71, (let me know if you need these), so all the other censuses make him b.1830-1831.

This looks like his death,

Thomas WATTS    age: 77    Dec Q 1907    Leominster    6a  317

Daisy,
Many thanks for this, certainly looks like the right family :)
I do have a query re. the 1851 'family' details though, as you say 'possibly' Thomas (aged 21). Is the head of this family a Francis or Watts?

Thanks for the details of death, great help that one, clears up a family mystery as well!

In 1851 Thomas is living with the FRANCIS family, there is no relationship given but I would hazard a guess thet he is the 1 man employed by Head of Household John FRANCIS.
