Coleraine parish records anyone?
« on: Sunday 26 October 08 02:58 GMT (UK) »
While at my local FHC  after giving up trying to read Russian parish records I was happy to find that they had Irish birth, marriage and death indexes on microfilm.  I found the birth and marriage on the index that I was interested in and was also told I could send a request for photocopies of the certificates to Utah for a pretty reasonable cost - four dollars for the first two.  I did get the marriage record but not the birth record - it wasn't available which was very disappointing.

At least now I know that Hugh McFadden McClements was born  Dec 1888 in Coleraine.  Any possibility that someone here has access to Coleraine parish records.   Hugh's father's name was Robert and his mother's name was Isabelle.  I am just looking for Isabelle's maiden name.

Thanks for any help you can give me

It's actually civil records you are searching for not parish (Church of Ireland or Roman Catholic) records.
McClements is certainly a name found in the Coleraine area but the family might not have lived in Coleraine itself. In the indexes to births, deaths and marriages the registration district is shown, not the actual place of birth.
I can't find the marriage of Robert McClements and Isabella in my files bt hopefully someone else will be able to help you.

I am also finding difficulty locating the marriage. I have found the births of the Children:-

Samuel 1886
Robert   1888
Hugh     1889
Margaret 1892
William   1894
Mary      1897

All are listed as born Londonderry, Londonderry. I assume this refers to city and county.

Regards
Stewart, Irwin, Morrison, Haslett, Murrell - Dungiven area Co. Londonderry
Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh
Neil, Smyth _Co. Antrim

Isabella McFadden m.1875 Co.Derry to Robert Lamon.

All the above births are submitted IGI records and may not be accurate.

Hi
thanks for all your help.  I had already seen that IGI record and was sorry to see that there was no source listed.
I did look at ordering the birth certificate from I think PRONI but apparently you need the mother's maiden name.  If I knew that I wouldn't need to order the birth certificate.
From the very little information I have Robert is from Antrim and I am not sure where he married Isabelle.   I'll have to spend some more time checking out those indexes.

If you have already looked up Hugh McClements in the birth index you should be able to order his birth certificate by supplying his name (as it appears in the index), his father's name, mother's Christian name, registration district, quarter, volume and page number.

Thanks for the link.  Not sure where I was looking before but wasn't here.
I just  hope I remembered to write down all the relevant information from the indexes.
