WW2 Service Records Question
« on: Wednesday 29 October 08 12:19 GMT (UK) »
Hi there

I wonder if anyone can help?  I am thinking of ordering my grandfather's record for the Veterans Agency in Glasgow.  As you probably know it costs £30.00.  I was wondering whether anyone else has ordered a service record and what do you get for your money?  My grandfather was a Captain in the 8th Army and was seconded to the Egyptian Army for some time.

Any answers greatly appreciated.
Many thanks indeed.
Emma

Service records include information about enlistement, training units, units to which he was attached, promotions, sickness, officer courses etc. They do vary depending upon the individual. But they are probably the best source of information to track an individual's service/unit history. Files can be anything from a couple of pages to dozens.

When applying for records it is always best to request a photocopy of the original because the typed summary sometimes leaves out certain notes etc on the file
