Illegible Writing
« on: Thursday 30 October 08 11:58 GMT (UK) »
I seem to struggle with the different styles of handwriting on documents. I have attached a segment of a birth record from 1823 in Scotland. I'm not sure what the last three lines say. I have a few other records that are hard to read too but i don't want to take liberties and attach them all. Any ideas would be very appreciated. Thanks

Yes, I just wondered about Hay.

It is almost certainly "named" too - well spotted!

Have you looked any of the places up gadget?  Where in the world Scotland are we?

Could be Hay, it looks very similar to the H of Hillbrae but the central downstroke is more like an M.

Do we know the father's surname?
