THANKS/ In a pickle
« on: Thursday 30 October 08 20:50 GMT (UK) »
I would firstly like to thank everyone who has helped me out on my previous posts. It is very much appreciated. But i'm in a pickle with something else ???. I'm looking for the birth of a TURNBULL MARTIN. All i know about him is that he married a JANET WILSON on the 27 feb 1816 in Edinburgh. This is probably a long shot but i've noticed a lot of people on here are quite clued up about genealogy,so i'm hopeful. Thanks again

Hi again  :D

Do you have him on the 1841 or 1851 censuses?

So far, I've not found them but these are children of Janet and Turnbull:

20 Sept 1816 Thomas
15 May 1819 Grizle
12 Feb 1821 Janet
8 Oct 1823 John
16 April 1826 Peter
24 Feb 1829 James

All baptized St Cuthberts, Edinburgh (from SP)

do you know Janet's parents' names?

This is very odd, I can't see Turnbull, Janet, James or Peter on the 1841  :-\

There's an outside possibility of Peter as a Male Servant but not enough info to go on  :(

There seem to be a lot of births later on with a <name> Turnbull Martin but this couple seem to disappear.

I assume you link in via Peter?

I'll do a bit more searching.

I think i have peter martin on the 1841 census. He was born in Fife and lived in Carnock. in 1841 he was an apprentice blacksmith. If this info is correct then i hope it helps. Thanks gadget

I think it's a different Peter  :-\  They were all baptized in Edinburgh so, unless they were taken to Edinburgh for bapitism, they were probably born there.

I see that there is no image of the marriage of Turnbull  and Janet on SP. It might be worth ordering it to see if it gives any further information about them.

If they used the Scottish naming conventions then Turnbull's father would be Thomas and Janet's would be John.

Is the Peter Martin in Fife, your ancestor?

Iif so, have you followed him through to find a death cert. This will confirm his parents' names.

I thought that might be peter martin because the year matches with his birth, and he had a daughter with a janet duncanson(the daughter is in my tree - janet martin). In 1841 census, peter was living with the Duncanson family. Could i be barking up the wrong tree?
