BDM embargoes extended in most states

Hi all

Graham Jaunay has alerted readers of his newsletter to the fact that most Australian jurisdictions have recently extended the embargoes on non-historical BDM certificates, further restricting access for researchers.

BIRTHS

75 years - SA, WA
80 years - NT
100 years - ACT, NSW, QLD, TAS, VIC

MARRIAGES

50 years - NSW
60 years - NT, SA, WA
65 years - VIC
75 years - ACT, TAS
80 years - QLD

DEATHS

23 years - VIC
25 years - SA, TAS, WA
30 years - ACT, NSW, NT
50 years - QLD

Thanks for that Nudge.

It was a 10 year restriction on deaths in Vic but now it looks like you can't go past 1985.

Just as well I got my one for 1994 of my great aunt then.

The restrictions on the BDM website in Victoria have not changed [4 Nov 2008]
