COMPLETED Lomas, Lane Head, Hope p.
« on: Saturday 01 November 08 10:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi Derbyshire experts

On Marjorie Ward's wonderful (Cheshire-based) website, - rootschat.com/forum/index.php?action=post;board=211.0 is a transcription of the St James Taxal Parish Register including an entry for John LOMAS, christened 23 July 1839, son of John and Martha of Lane Head, Hope p., farmer

I can't find a Lane Head [Farm] in the vicinity.

I have checked the register for other appearances of the family in the register (none). I haven't yet ordered a photocopy of the entry in the parish register from Cheshire Archive.

My best guess is Lee Head Farm near Cadster...

Any suggestions on where John might have been born? Anybody interested in this family?

Hello,

An 1881 O.S. map of Derbyshire shows LaneHead farm to be N.W. of St James Church Taxel. Just around a bend in the road approximately 100 metres.

I have checked on Google Earth and the building is still there and could still be a farm.

James Lomas was born to John and Martha on 23rd of July 1839.

Martha died the same day aged 20.

John was born at Fernilee on 3rd Sept 1815. Father James, Mother Hannah.

They later lived at Shaw Stiles.
