Becketts + Phelan
« on: Sunday 02 November 08 13:45 GMT (UK) »
We have a Michael Beckett married to Anne Phelan on our family tree.

Our records show sons Matthew & James came to Westport abt. 1850.

James married Sarah Woodhouse -they were killed in an accident and son and daughter went back to Kilkenny (text from School records)

Matthew married a Margaret Malone (I have info on this family)
There was an Elizabeth Beckett in Kilkenny related to this family
Has anyone else come across these names in their research??

Hi

I am still looking for any info on the above families

I intend to stay in Kilkenny this month to see if I can do some research.

Would appreciate any suggestions?

what kind of research are you planning .. parish records ?

You might be better starting your work in Dublin i.e. National Library - for RC parish records, RCB Library - for Church of Ireland records, or GRO for Civil certs

Hi Shane
My Becketts are unusually RC, most of the other Beckett families are Church Of Ireland.
Once Matthew (MGGF) came to Westport I can account for the family.
When I contacted Kilkenny Genealogy they show a "Baby Beckett " born 1838 to a Michael + Anne Phelan on 7/10/1838 (st Canice's), Sponsors Edward Becket + Margaret Dermody.  My Matthew died in Wport in 1888 aged 50, looks like the same man.  My  late Dad spoke of relatives in Kilkenny, so we would love to be able to connect with this family.

Thanks for your interest and prompt reply.
