KELLEHER, Ellen (Emu Bay Tas) (Also known as Ellen Hutton)

Okay.......have just tried NZ board with no results........any suggestions as to what else I can try to find Ellen Kelleher/Hutton?

So far we have searched Tas to 1930, NSW BDM, NSW Coroner's Reports, Victoria BDM, Victoria Inquests, Queensland BDM's, SA and WA BDM's and now NZ with now luck.

Can you think of any avenue I have missed.

Me again....yes I am obsessed with trying to solve this mystery.

Just had a thought that if we could find Frederick getting married or dying, we might get a handle on where/when Ellen died.

I have checked NSW and Qld with no luck....could a kind rootschatter who has access to Tas, SA and Vic do a quick check on Frederick James Hutton for marriage/death please.

I  did do  Frederick Hutton  in  Victoria  up to 1984  but no  luck,  he does not appear on  the Electoral Rolls availabe on A...y at  the moment.  I  feel  that one of  the girls also checked SA  for his death too


A copy of his grandmothers will might turn up something you never know.

I  did ask Joppo  to check Tas and he wasn't chowing up  there

We sure could do with some of the tropical warmth down here at the moment.......it has rained heavily all day (yes, sometimes the tropics are like this too!)

Many thanks for the searches........much appreciated. I was hoping to solve this mystery before Christmas as i am putting together a pictorial family tree-not the "proper formal tree"  (with some social commentary) for my mother for Christmas. Up until we discovered on here that Ellen had been hospitalised, she had believed that Ellen had done a runner, and she had no idea about Frederick.

Frederick is  certainlye  very intriguing,  I  suppose  he could have been adopted out if Ellen took  ill again ad Dad couldn't cope.  He may have stayed with the  Nuns.

 I  did wonder if he was killed in WW1  but no  sign of him on  the NAA

Dear Jenn,
Very intriguing......I had just looked at the Service records too! Frederick wasn't with the three children who went to the nuns (and I have a formal request with the Sisters of Charity Archives to see if they have records for the kids). The Orphanage is in Hobart, so if Elllen was re-admitted then they both may have travelled to Hobart together as that's where the hospital is.
Mary (the sister) spent time in another orphanage in Victoria......so I suspect my grandfather did too.

I have also rung Waratah and asked them to check the old Cemetery records for Ellen.

I  might have asked this before (so please forgive if I  have) but do you  have anything to confirm he lived past infancy?

Dear Jenn,
Nothing concrete expect that Ellen didn't register his birth until 3 months after the event and didn't register a death at the same time.....or am I being too hopeful!

This mystery deepens

My great uncle now tells me that Ellen's husband should have been living in Corowa by the time of the birth of Frederick in 1898.....so, if any one has access to the Sands Directories from 1895-1900, I would be grateful if you could look and see if John Thomas HUTTON was in Corowa during this time.....he was a barber (and a trapeze artist).......
