Hmmm someone is 17 by June 5/6 and 26 10 years later the last of March and 36 the beginning of April 10 years after that.  Just seems his birthday in in later April or anytime in May up to the beginning of June.

There is a baptism in Tynemouth of a William King 4 Aug 1824 to Thomas and Isabella, North Shields, Cordwainer.

HO 107/ 820/ Book 20/ Folio 10/ Page 12
Victoria Row, Seghill.

Mary King, 35, Y
Mary Ann do, 3, Y
William do, 15, coal miner, Y
Clement do, 15, coal miner, Y
Robert do, 15, coal miner Y
George do, 8, Y
James do, 13, coal miner Y

Bear in mind that it was quite usual to round ages down to the nearest 5 years for anyone over 15 - so William could actually have been aged anywhere between 15 and 19.

Thankyou Jen.

The names Robert and James have been used through out the years in the King Family, My own Father was named James after his Father.

Hmmmm I wonder if this could be My Family, I wish I knew for certain  :'(

Clement,Robert and William are all 15 in this census, I wonder if they were triplets  :-\

Hi

On some rivers the waterman trade was more or less a closed profession restricted to certain families.  I do not know if this was true of the Tyne but I doubt whether a 15 year old coalminer would become a 26 year old waterman.

All the best

Eve,

In my previous message I said that it was usual (although not invariably adhered to) for the ages of people over 15 in the 1841 census to be rounded down to the nearest five years (see http://www.rootschat.com/links/04on/ for more details). Therefore Clement, Robert and William could have been aged anywhere between 15 and 19 years.

The names Robert and James have been used through out the years in the King Family, My own Father was named James after his Father.

Robert and James are quite common names, and I don't think you should use this as an indication that this is necessarily your family.

I doubt whether a 15 year old coalminer would become a 26 year old waterman.

Agreed. I think William the 17 year old waterman in 1841 is more likely to be your man.

Jennifer

Hello Eve

Thank you.  They are Grandchildren and they don't always live up to their angelic looks but we love them just the same.
