...and the only thing that would make me stay a paying member at the end of the year, is that the "improvements" GC have made, means it can now be very difficult for a free member to have any contact with a paying one.

Hiya Silvilocks,

And welcome...

Not sure about the access thing with GC - I've never paid and seem to be able to see everything... Whoops :o

But y'right, this place is better  ;)

Trying this as a test... think I have a major problem with the Net tonight  ??? I did post in the London thread, but it certainly didn't make it there. I've also had problems on other sites tonight. May not be around much until I've tracked the problem down.

*Don't anyone mention 'virus'. I can't afford to lose a third PC to one!*

...just to let you in to a little secret, we're bringing out a similar system to them where you will be able to search for links between your tree and other people.. we are still testing it... but the thing is - it will be as free as the rest of RootsChat is... that is of course if you think it would be of benefit to you. :)

Hey Trystan,

Sssshhhhh!!! I thought that this was our secret !!

I think that everyone knows that we are as bad as them for researching our ancestors.

We are busy thinking up new ideas all the time, if anyone has any good ideas why not let us know !

I am a member of Genes Reunited and have made contact with a 3rd cousin.  We have swapped family tree information which has been quite exciting.  Since then, I have not yet made any further connections, but am still waiting in vain!!!

I am very impressed with this site, everyone is so helpful.  I would be very interested to hear more about the new search facility between trees that is currently in the testing stage.  I will be one of the first to use it.

Well done for such a fantastic site.

Jan

I have posted 78 queries and messages on GC in the last 18 months and had 34 replies. Of the 34 replies 18 were 2nd,3rd,4th cousins etc.
I have managed to 'add' 57 names to the tree.
I have been on Rootschat for I month and found 2 more distant cousins ,recvd. information on lookup requests which in turn has helped me add 44 more names to the tree.Seems like Rootschat wins on average.

Also Rootschat is much easier to use than most Gensites, and it is FREE!

Congrats to the creators of Rootschat
