I joined FriendsReunited  and GenesConnected  for the first year and watched how things went.
My tactic the following year was not to re-join until I actually saw a name I was desperate to contact . In the case of FR - I saved three years subscriptions  ;D ;D

I have been a member of Friendsreunited for Years, signed up with GenesReunited @2 Years ago, I was contacted by 2 Cousins within a few weeks of registering (one moved from SA to USA years ago & I lost track with their branch of the Family!).

In the last Year I have made contact with 4 more Cousins, each of us has been able to swap Info to further Our Research & Knowledge!

P.S.

I read in this thread that some have had trouble with Genes not allowing the posting of Web addresses?

I have Never had any Problems, Apart from the Pages full of spurious Hits which I reported to the Admin Bods.  In reply they told me that they are in the process of updating their Server so that More Parameters could be Included thereby reducing the number of false Hits!
