« on: Sunday 24 August 08 00:31 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather Charles Enverdale Anderson died in New York January 27 1902 while on holiday for health reasons. I have tried the New York Archives to no avail and would like to find out if he was buried in New York ( Coupar Angus Cemetary book says died in New York and there interred on Feb 11 1902 )Would there be a death certificate in Scotland if he was brought back to Coupar Angus??. Any help ould be appreciated

If he might have been there in 1900, the census is available for free here:  http://labs.familysearch.org/

I'm not aware of any lists of ships returning to the UK.

Here's some things about the House of Relief:

http://www.nyc-architecture.com/SOH/SOH018.htm
http://drucifer.net/GenFiles/Franklin/HospitalsFranklin.htm

There's some information in books in Google books, which indicate the House of Relief was also called the Hudson Street Hospital, was for emergency cases except for contagious diseases, and was a branch of the Society of the New York Hospital.

Hi

Quote
Coupar Angus Cemetary book says died in New York and there interred on Feb 11 1902

Quote
He was buried in Coupar Angus

Is that the exact wording from the Coupar Angus Cemetery Book: " died in New York and there interred on Feb 11 1902 "? Because that says, surely, that he was buried in New York?

Cheers

 Hi Ambly,
I have reread the info and realize that there were several spelling mistakes in the info.
It should read "who died in NY on Jan 27 1902 here interred (i.e Coupar Angus) Feb 11 1902. Which fits with the NY d/c which states place/burial Coupar Angus. date/burial Jan 29/02 as provided by the undertaker. Which I am assuming was the time and date it took for the remains to be returned to Scotland. Many thanks.
