Warrington Bridge Street
« on: Wednesday 05 November 08 06:16 GMT (UK) »
Hello all, I wonder if anyone can help me with any information about a boot and shoe shop that was located at 83 Bridge Street in Warrington between 1871 and 1891. My great great grandfather was either the owner or manager of this establishment, but so far I'm unable to find out any further information. Any help would be greatfully received. Thankyou.

Trisprint, I suggest you post this query on the Lancashire Board as well.  Warrington was in Lancashire prior to the government re-organisation in the mid 1970's and someone on that Board may be able to help.

I suspect Warrington library would have a record of the said establishment. Unfortunatley it is currently closed whilst undergoing an extensive refurb, it should be open again in the new year though. I work just around the corner and will have a look for you. If I can remember that is  ::)

Directories might help.  Cheshire Records Office have some online here:

1895 Slater's Directory of Warrington, Widnes & St Helens is available at the above link.

There are more directories online at:

Thanks a million JDGen, I found it in Worrall's directory. Many, many thanks :)

As a footnote, in 1895 Slater's Directory of Warrington, I have also found a record of a shop my great grandfather used to own in Warrington. So even more thanks for this information JDGen :)
