Thank you. I am glad that it has arrived and hopefully will solve the mystery of Violet’s birth.
I can see it is in the same area as the ‘sightings’ of Emma in the various records from Bedfordshire which adds to the evidence but sadly, we can’t find any of them in 1891  :-\

It is interesting that 12 Chesterfield Street, Pancras (or Kings Cross) where Beatrice Turner had baby Violet Mabel Ellen on 10 June 1891 is the same address in Argyle Square, London that her mother Ellen Emma Turner wrote a letter dated 26 Nov 1891 as per Beds Archives record HF89/7/10a. The letter was from there c/o Mrs Murray.

A quick Google found me info that suggested 12-13 Chesterfield was a hotel in the Kings Cross/St.Pancras area. It is still one today, although Chesterfield Street became Crestfield Street in 1937.  A scan of newspapers found a clipping from Nov 1895 regarding a death of barrister Thomas Galland at 13 Chesterfield Street and that landlady Mary Ann Barry was called as witness. Both Barry & Galland are at that address as per the 1891 census.

However both Beatrice & her mother Ellen are not there  on that census.

You had me bothered there for a moment  :)

I have  1891 124/79

12 Chesterfield Street

William Hancock, Stone Mason b Reading, Berkshire with his family and lodgers.

I see it is the right one as you are referring to number 13.

I just rechecked and there is a lodger,
Katharine Hamlyn , single, Mantle Maker b Devon, Christow  ???

Maybe just coincidence

Additionally there is this lady,
Louise Murray, 24 yrs married lodging  at 25 Argyle Street  with a Turner family but not ours, I think.

Fantastic :D

It says  Beatrice was formerly a Barwoman

The address is interesting but a shame that neither Beatrice nor Emma Ellen are there on the 1891 census. It does however seem to confirm we have the right parents for Beatrice.
