Hi Lyn  ;D

On the other topic which you posted in Aberdeen board, you said mother's name was Jean DOUGLAS ???
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,339713.0.html

Here you say mother is Jean ADAMS?

SP has no marriage that I can see - of a HERMISTON groom to a J* forname bride  who is an ADAMS.
But there is:

MARRIAGE - 1893 HERMISTON ROBERT  and DOUGLAS JANE  in EARLSTON /BERWICK  - Ref 736/00 0004

Jean/Jane are quite interchangeable in the Scottish record/ families - ie:  Jean/Janet/Jane/Jennet

This looks like the couple who married - Jane here was born in the same parish as that marriage took place in - and it was custom to marry in the parish of the bride. They didn't waste any time growing their family tree, did they  ;D

And the couple who married,  their most likely births below show they followed  the Scottish naming pattern to a T, for their own children......

BIRTH - IGI:
Robert  HERMISTON  - born 2 Sep 1866  Roxburgh
 Father: James HERMISTON
 Mother: Helen YOUNG

BIRTH - IGI:
Jane DOUGLAS  - born 7  May 1868  Earlston, Berwick,
 Father: Walter  DOUGLAS
 Mother: Agnes TAIT

Hi Lyn

No problems - we all do it (I did it yesterday in fact, sent someone looking for a Charles when it should be a WIlliam  8))  - just glad I happened to spot your  other topic with DOUGLAS in it!

You should be able to glean quite a bit on the HERMISTON and DOUGLAS families from the IGI, the siblings of Robert and Jane etc.

If you want any other Census looked up, as always, just holler!

Cheers
