Ballybritain means 'townland of Breton' and is 385 acres 3 rods 8 perches in the centre of Aghadowey Parish.

Is it McClements you are looking for in Ballybritain? 4 children of Robert John and Isabella McClements of Ballybritain baptised in St. Guaire's Parish Church 1885-1892.

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Yes  I am looking for any children of Robert John and Isabella Mcclements (nee Mckeernan) of Ballybritian.    If the record on IGI is right the four children should be Samuel  1886, Robert 1887, and I know Hugh is Sep 1888 and the fourth Margaret 1892.  do you have any other information on this family.

I did find the Ballybritan in Offaly but since I knew Hugh was born in Derry I thought there must be a Ballybrittan in Derry.

thanks so much for all of your replies.
Vivien

Hello Vivien,

Just in case you are searching for townlands in the future ...

Have you used the following site:
http://www.thecore.com/seanruad/

It's excellent and very flexible.

For instance, you could have searched for:
Townland - Ballybr - At BEGINNING of the field
in
County - Londonderry

This gets just 3 hits:
Ballybriest
Ballybrissell
Ballybritain
and further details about each townland.

All the very best,

JAP

Vivien- it is Ballybritain townland in Aghadowey.

St. Guaire's Parish Church (Church of Ireland), Aghadowey baptisms:
1. Samuel James son of Robert John + Isabella McClements, Ballybritain, labourer, born 18 April 1885 bapt. 9 Aug.1885.
2. Robert John son of Robert John + Isabella McClements, Ballybritain, labourer, born 23 May 1887, bapt. 24 July 1887.
3. Hugh McFadden, son of Robert John + Isabella McClements, St. Margaret's, labourer, born 29 Sept.1888, bapt. 13 Jan.1889.
4. Margaret Ann, dau. of Robert John + Isabella McClements, St. Margaret's, labourer, born 1 Dec.1891, bapt. 10 Apr.1892.

Note: St. Margaret's was the Rectory and is in the townland of Ballybritain.

IGI records show these 4 children + 2 younger children- wonder if the ages of the children were taken from 1901 census.

Robert John and Isabella Mcclements (nee Mckeernan) of Ballybritian.

Thought Isabella was McFadden but could her maiden name have been McKeeman?

Thanks for the link, JAP - I usually found Genuki has the information I need but not this time.

Aghadowey - yes I was thinking originally that  Isabella was a McFadden except that I found a birth record for a Samuel McClements b 1866 in Dervock Antrim to  parents James McClements and Sarah McFadden on Familysearch some time ago and thought that was likely the McFadden connection.

Now that I have the information that was on  Hugh's birth certificate and found that Isabella was a McKeernan I am thinking it's even more likely that James and Sarah are Robert's parents.   Thanks so much for the information on Hugh's brothers and sister.

I found some of the family on the 1912 Ulster covenant too but so that was helpful.

Just a few more pieces to add to the puzzle.

thanks again
Vivien

Vivien- it is Ballybritain townland in Aghadowey.

...

Hi aghadowey, of course!  I was simply trying to give helpful advice to VivienR should she (or anyone else reading this thread) happen to come across a similar problem in the future.  And I demonstrated it (pretty well, I thought  :'( ) using the example of the current (previously resolved) thread.

I do tend to try to give how to suggestions - I'm sure you know the old adage about give a chap a fish you feed the chap for a day but teach a chap how to fish you feed the chap for a lifetime   ;D

Hi Vivien, the SeanRuad site is a beauty and is so very flexible.

It allows one to search by so many parameters - by exact match, by anywhere in the word, by at the beginning of the word, by at the end of the word etc.  And by County, by Barony, by Civil Parish, by Poor Law Union, by Province ...

I've found that using those flexible search parameters can often produce an answer which has defied all other attempts.  Anyway, best of luck with your research. :D

Kind regards to all,

JAP
