Interpretation of information on a medals record
« on: Sunday 09 November 08 18:13 GMT (UK) »
Hello all

I woner if anyone can help to interpret the information on this medals record.

I would especially appreciate information on

Who were the 44/RFa Corps?
what the medal roll information means?
What the information under action taken means, and

Whether the information held in correspondence means that Mrs Barker had applied for and received his medals?

Thank you.

Hi
He was one of the first into action in 1914.Thus entitled to 1914 Star,British War and Victory Medals.
The numbers next to the medal awards relate to actual Roll Books at Kew which would give Battery number, dates abroad to and from. You have to visit or get a researcher to check this info.

Action taken is the award of a clasp given to lads who were under fire in 1914 up to Nov 22nd 1914.They had to be applied for as they were in the other details of card.

RFA was Royal Field Artillery he could have been 44 Brigade RFA?? If you can marry his deployment date to a Battery deployment date that will give answer.(Possibly 2nd Div they deployed Aug 1914 with 44 Brigade  RFA in support)

Hope that helps

Thanks Guys.

I saw the CWGC listing Rog and went up to Nottingham to see his grave.  He died at the Military Hospital Trent Bridge on 25/2/1918 of emphysema and septic poisoning.

It seems that the 53rd Battery II Brigade were part of 6th Division and involved at Cambrai in November/ December 1917, which seems, given the campaign details an date of death where he was probably wounded.

Looks like the next step is to contact a researcher!

Thanks again
