Lewis's daughter's or not?
« on: Monday 10 November 08 10:33 GMT (UK) »
I have had a contact who says Lucy Turner is the daughter of Lewis Lowe.

Quote:  Lucy Turner was the daughter of Maria Turner, i got Lucy's birth cert no father mentioned, Lucy was living with Evelina in the 1891 census as grandaughter, i went and looked at the parish records today and it has Lewis Lowe on there as the father. On Ann's baptism it just has Lewis Lowe and Maria Turner, so both children it seems are his, even though he is not on the birth cert. (ps Lucy's christening date 31/1/1880)

1881 Census RG11/3336/81/15 2 Hardstaffs Yard, Arnold, Notts

Lewis Lowe  aged 23 Head of household Unmarried Framework knitter

in the same house are

Maria Turner aged 22 Housekeeper (Head) Arnold, Notts

Ann Turner aged 2 daughter Arnold, Notts

Lucy Turner aged 1 daughter Arnold, Notts

On the 1891 census  RG12/2676/83/30 Arnold Notts

Eveline(a) Lovett (Lowe nee Chambers) Head 66 Kimberley, Notts

Lucy Turner  aged 12 granddaughter Arnold, Notts

It seems on the face of it that the children are Lewis's but
I would really like this confiming please, could some kind person please check for me as I am not sure whether to add Maria, Ann and Lucy to my tree.

many thanks
Jan

Hi. I have access to the 1891 census original but not the 1881.

Here is the 1891 entry at the reference you gave.

Evelyn Lovatt     Head    widow     66    Born Kimberly

Samuel Baggaley    Boarder       46           b     Arnold

Jane Lowe      Boarder     widow   25        b Ireland

Lucy Turner             granddaughter   12     b Arnold

Evelyn Lowe            granddaughter     5     b Ireland

I hope this is of some help.

NC.

Hiya Nottschick,
had already posted that (lol) I have Lucy on both the 1881 and 1891 censuses, just need to find out if she is really Evelina's grandaughter.

all the best and thanks anyway

Hi there. I am researching Lewis lowe at the moment, he was the brother of Lucinda Lowe, a great great grandmother of mine.  I found that in 1886 Lewis travelled to America, he died in 1887 from typhoid fever.

I'm struggling to find what happened to the three Turner girls children.

I can't find births that match.

Maria Turner, appears to have died in 1884 (although I've not ordered the certificate) so I'm a bit confused about Eveline Turner re being born in 1886 Ireland... And where does jane Lowe, from Ireland fit in?
Nottingham/Derby - Alvey, Machin, Scott, Stevenson, Redfern, Lowe, Coupe, Bowler, Strutt, Miller
Worcestershire - Burrows, Smith, Machin, Hardman, Nash, Sanders/Saunders, Davis, Adams
Buckinghamshire - Burrows, Woodward, Adams
Ireland (Dublin/Malahide/Cork) - O'Driscoll, Henvy, Gallaghan
