M = male, not married (note the girls have F by them!)

"in law" was often used in the 19th century to denote a step relationship, rather than what we would expect today

Samuel Lovett married Evelina Lowe in 1859, so i think Louis and Emma are indeed step children

There's a possible 1846 marriagefor a Peter Percival Lowe and an Evelina Chambers (which would fit with Frances the sister in law), although 1851 census suggests a Hannah Loner as his wife!

They seem to like using in-law in both meanings in that area - Emma (9) and Louis (3) along with an older sister Lucy/Lucinda (14) are also described as son/daughter in law on 1861. Ancestry has transcribed their surname as Love

Have got all about evelina and Peter 😃

Ooo how strange, if that marriage and baptism is correct....

This is my maternal genealogy, but my dad, is Irish and all of his family (most anyway) are from balrothery! no lowes though!

Eveline Turner/Lowe 1886 is transcribed on FindMyPast as Eveline Turner but the actual record is Eveline Lowe.  I cannot for the life of me find her on 1901 census cor uk

Ahh on the baptism it says Lewis lowe was a protestant

And emmilina sounds a lot lime evelina...

If this is him I wonder why he went to Ireland? His housekeeper who had his other children died... So he left, married, had another child... But then in 1886 (same year... Will have to check what date he left?)  he went to America.  Alone I think?
