« on: Tuesday 11 November 08 13:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

Looking for information on a button maker by the name of Robert Firmin St Mathews Bethnal Green area. My great great grandmother worked for him at the time she was convicted and transported to NSW Oz on 9th September 1833. Where he lived around this time would be a great help. What products this company where producing etc. If anyone can help, please yell loudly.

Thankyou

Hi
You may be able to find him in a directory though he does not show up in the 1846 London Post Office Directory.  There is a site that has lots of historical directories on - try googling and it may come up or there is probably a link from Genuki.  I would think that buttons were made from bone or wood in those days.

Hello there, I came across this message and wondered if you might be able to help. I am currently doing some research for a book on royal suppliers and people who worked for them over the centuries and I am currently looking Firmin & Son as royal warrant holder for button manufacturer. I was fascinated by your relative who worked for the form. Would you be willing to share a bit of information about her? I would love to hear about her story. I hope you don't mind my reaching out! Kate
