Thanks both for the info!

Annie - I do still have the pics of the memorial...something I can lay my hands on!

Blimey.  Will have to visit the field one day.  I'm sure it will be an emotional experience.  Although I never knew Ephraim, he's been there along the way of all my genealogy so I've 'known' him for a quite a few years now!  I've got a photo of an unknown Essex soldier, but he looks about 12 so I don't think that is an option...will have to scan them in and see if anyone can identify them all.

I will contact the paper and the links you've given me to see what they can do.  I would just dearly love to know what he looked like, which is a bit shallow, I know.  I have photos of his parents when they were old and also of his sister (who lived to be 98) but know nothing of him.  He married Florence Jane Brown who at 32 was 12 years older than him on 8th August 1914.  And then that is the end of the trail.

Thanks again,

Emma ;)

OK...have contacted both the newspaper and the 10th Essex Regiment so will see what comes back.  Thanks for the link earlier Annie...I know feel I've moved a bit nearer, having a picture of where he was... :)
