Oh that's a first  SP are normally exceptionally good at this. As you can imagine, it's a common problem. They do send out a standard acknowledgment but that's normally quickly followed up by the enhanced image. I would e-mail again if you don't receive it.

The key thing to remember with SP is that you are paying to see an image you can view/read  If for any reason, they are unable to enhance the image, at the very least they normally refund credits.

Just found Robert's DC in Leith 1946, widower of Elizabeth. Parents down as Edward, Sergeant (which matches the MC) XXX, Royal Artillery and Margaret SUTHERLAND.

I think you might be on a hunt for army births  Some entries showing on IGI for children to a Edward Jones and Margaret Sutherland:

1. EDWARD JONESBirth: 02 AUG 1860 Leith, Midlothian
2. CHARLES JOHN JONES Birth: 10 JUL 1867 , Waterford, Ireland
3. EMILY JANE JONES Birth: 26 JUL 1869 , Cork, Ireland

With a gap there for Robert's birth in England (?).

I wonder if this death entry is connected to Margaret, mother:

1924   Margaret Jones/SUTHERLAND, age 83 in LEITH NORTH, EDINBURGH CITY, MIDLOTHIAN.  GROS Ref:685/10 0146

Would make her a young bride in 1860 but hopefully you can verify with the marriage/death certs for confirmation of parents etc.
