1851-1861 census
« on: Thursday 13 November 08 14:29 GMT (UK) »
Could someone with the 1851 -1861 census
do a lookup for me please ?

Ann Cassidy born 1846 circa in Newcastle upon Tyne.

She is on the  1891 -1901 census for Sunderland.
as Ann Donkin born Newcastle upon Tyne.

Ann Cassidy late Johnson formerly Cassidy married
George Donkin. Where I don't know ?
I would like to find her birth & marriage certificates
but I,m not sure where to look ?

Hi Hendon,

Where did you get her former names, from a child's birth cert?  Have you found them in the 1881 anywhere?  Was the eldest child Ann's son or  George's from a previous marriage, do you know, just to narrow down marriage dates.
I found a Duncan family in 1881 that might match, but can't see them as Donkin

It's a bit confusing as in 1891 she is recorded as born Sunderland 1848 and on the 1901 she is born Newcastle 1847. Which is correct?

As Barbara says we need to try and sort those children out as they hold the clue as to the marriage dates.

Tricia, what do you think of the Duncan family I found in 1881?  George b. Sunderland, Ann b. Newcastle  - can't see them as Duncan in 1891

Hmm........... - dunno - had a quick look

There is a Daniel and a Margaret on that 1881 who do not appear with the Donkins in 1891

There is a David on the 1891 who is also on the 1901

So, the 1881 would be a possible if David has been written as Daniel(which is possible and Margaret has died or is elsewhere

Cassidy is quite unusual so we should be able to pick her up in 1851.
There is a Cassidy family around but the daughter is Sarah :(

Donkin and Duncan sound much the same if you say them out loud ;D

There is a death for a Margaret Donkin in Sunderland in 1882 - she is 4 so could be possible but  we do seem to be in the realms of speculation.

We really need to find the Ann Johnson/GeorgeDonkin marriage so we know what we are looking for ::)

Yes, I know  :)

I couldn't see an obvious Ann Cassidy in 1851, which is why I thought I'd work backwards..... not much easier  :-\

Thankyou for your replies.

I have a birth certificate from the Sunderland Registration District.

17th January 1881 at 2 Smithson Square Monkwearmouth S/land.

for David Donkin , father George. Mother: Ann Donkin late Johnson formerly
Cassidy.

David Donkin should be on the 1901 census.

David Donkin died 1953 aged 72 so he was born 1881.

I do not know if the eldest child John was the son of Mr. Johnson ?

They later moved to Spelterworks Road and later to Albany Terrace Sunderland.

The surname Donkin has also been spelt Donkon/Duncan :-)

Regards
Hendon

Yes David was on the 1901, but can't see him in 1881 (unless he's mistranscribed Daniel)

So in that case the marriage is pre-1881
