benjamins

I have been researching theBenjamins for some time and I assume it is a patronymic name.  however, I can't find when it changed and from what  The problem is that the Benjamins that  I am researching were very localized from the Mold area, in particular Gwernafield and Nerquis, they must have changed
 quite early as I have a Joseph Benjamin born 1730. The confusing thing is that there are Benjamins a bit later on from Bagillt, Hollywell and Hawarden but I cannot establish a link between them and my ancestors. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful.
