Hello, i have began searching my great uncle who i am named after i have found a casulty record and also where he is buried. in begium on hoogstede i believe that i sthe right spelling i have his service number. i am looking to find out as much information on this hero tha i am named after, what more informationcan i obtain with the little information i have or is this. also is there anywhere is there any picture records i would love to find out what he looked like any help wanted i would be very grateful of any.

Probably the easiest thing would be to give us his name, number and whatever you know already.

People may have different ideas depending on what you have to date.

SDGW gives in addition that he was born in Hawarden, Flintshire and enlisted at Caergwrle, Hawarden.

CWGC that his unit was 290th siege battery, RGA

Its a database of Army Ranks who died 1914-21 made up by HMSO in 1921 from Next of Kins details supplied..It lists place of birth,enlistment and residence plus military details.Some have more info than others.Best used in conjunction with Commonwealth War Graves site.

The Medal Index Card means he was entitled to a Britsh War and Victory Medals he didnt go overseas til after Jan 1916.

 For a photograph you  might try a local newspaper,alot of photographs appeared of soldiers who died in the war.

The medal card is meant to act as a summary of all medal entitlements. In his case it just has the one entry for the British War Medal and Victory Medal (which were issued together). As you have his unit the medal roll will not give you any more detail.

Unfortunately, it looks as if his service record did not survive WW2 bombing, as it is not on Ancestry. However, the only pieces of information you are missing are: when did he enlist, and when did he leave for the front? I am sure an RA specialist will be able to tell you from his number and unit. Although I cannot find a reference to a 290th Siege Battery.
