Alfred Cogan - Lookup Request

Alfred Cogan, born Brighton, Sussex in 1884 emigrated to Canada after 1901.

A******y  has an entry for him in the Canadian Passenger List, arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but I don't have worldwide subscription 

Can somebody please look him up for me?

According to the WW1 Roll of Honour, his wife was Nellie and at the time of his death (6/11/1917 at Passchendale), she was living at 7 Lansdown Avenue, London, Ontario.

What I would like to know is was he married when he emigrated, or did he marry in Canada? If the latter, who did he marry and when?

I have found the following entry (although there is a pencil line scored through the entire entry - whatever that signifies )

Alfred Cogan, 29, M(arried), born England, English, destination London, Ontario, occupation in country from which alien came Plumber, Intended occupation in Canada Plumber, C of E

There is no mention of a wife as far as I can see.

I'm sure it';s the right one, as the occupation matches and I know he ended up in London. Perhaps his wife joined him later.

Just checked A****** again and there is a Nellie Cogan who travelled to Quebec, don't know the year.

I looked up the Nellie Cogan travelling to Canada but she was a child travelling with a family of Cogans. She did not look to be the correct Nellie.

I cannot find anything else with either Alfred or Nellie's names
at the present. (Someone else might have sharper eyes than me )

There's a 1911 birth for a Constance M. Cogan, mmn Whitney, in Steyning.

I guess this is Nellie and children returning to Canada?

You people are good!!!

I know that Nellie was in Canada when Alfred died in 1917 (from War Graves Commission site), so I assume she must have returned to England after his death, then gone back out again in 1920.

Their son (A or M) would have been born in Canada, as Nellie was living in London, Ontario when Alfred enlisted and also when he died.

It's interesting that Nellie describes herself as "Wife", rather than "Widow" in her 1920 return to Canada.
