Alfred Cogan - Lookup Request

It is definitely a capital A for the child accompanying N Colgan in 1920 - I have just been back to double check. I also noticed this time that they were travelling 3rd class.

(There is no suggestion on this manifest that they had lived in Canada previously and there is by way of explanation at the foot of the page a note stating 'By permanent residence is to be understood residence for a year or more' ) If you give me an email address via PM I will send you the image for your records.

Well, I've now moved on a bit. I googled Alfred Cogan and got a 2007 link to Rootschat. Although not directly relevant, there was a link to the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid.

Nellie, Constance M and Alfred (jr) Cogan are all buried there.  Next problem is to find out when they died.

Aha!!  I've now got their return to UK, from New York, arriving in Liverpool on 17 April 1919.

Still can't find when Nellie and Constance originally went to Canada. I've tried Ellis Island, but they're not on there.

accompanied by
Edward Colgan, Clerk, 17   and
Infant Colgan (no age given but with a mark in the male column )
9 Aug 1913
Liverpool to Montreal
Vessel - Teutonic

I have found the following entry (although there is a pencil line scored through the entire entry - whatever that signifies )

Halifax, Nova Scotia on the Ultonia
May 1912
Liverpool to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Alfred Cogan, 29, M(arried), born England, English, destination London, Ontario, occupation in country from which alien came Plumber, Intended occupation in Canada Plumber, C of E

There is no mention of a wife as far as I can see.

The line above Alfred on the ships list is Ernest A. Whitney, travelling to London, Ontario as well, perhaps he is a brother of Nellie's?

Got the image, no the first one didn't work again. From the screenshot, it looks like Nellie travelled alone, so where was Constance? Also, the age seems a bit high, so it may not be the right one. Nellie was 37 when she returned to the UK.

It is very possible that Ernest was Nellie's brother and it's another lead to help me trace her in the UK.

I already have copies of Alfred'd attestation papers, but the others are great. Now I know his service number and regiment, I will certainly be ordering his service record.

I've ordered Alfred's service records and I think I've also cracked the problem of Nellie.
