Annie I hope you don't mind but I'm putting a bookmark. I can't help but would love to know the outcome. Can I ask one dumb question...why is it called the China Wall?

Interesting... :) I found the term really strange as in my business a China Wall means I can't talk to the person on the other side...we can't share info.

Killed in combat in a SPAD VII serial number B1663.

At the time of his death 19 Squadron were operating out Liettres.

From the XIX Squadron history (which I couldn't find on my shelf earlier...though staring me in the face!)

Quote
27th June 1917.
Captain Sowrey with four other Spads patrolled* from 6pm to 8pm and attacked a formation of six hostile aircraft. Captain Sowrey** shotdown one hostile aircraft out of control. Lt Lowe missing

*they were patrolling the area of the Messines-Wystschoete Ridge.

**Sowrey shotdown a Albatros D.III  south-east of Houthulst Forest. He ended the war with 13 victories, a DSO, MC and AFC
