I really cannot express my gratitude enough, Jenn, Cando, Genni and Sue, you are absolute angels.

Thankyou so much for all the info, so much more than I ever expected.

So much family I didn't know even existed. Quite overwhelming.

I think I may have found John's parents marriage in Manchester...
Hugh Morgan married Agnes Hardman 25 Nov 1833, Cathederal, Manchester. IGI extracted record M 005468.

But will have to wait for John and Ellen's marriage cert to arrive to confirm it.

If they are his parents, Agnes Hardman is possibly the one Baptised 25 Dec 1803 Manchester to parents Arthur and Betty Hardman. IGI XR C005468.

An  Arthur Hardman married Elizabeth Widdows on the 7 Feb 1803 Cathederal, Manchester IGI XR M005464... o good possibility.

Nicholas Finnerty seems to have disappeared of the face of the earth, but maybe he changed his name to Richard, as per the 1851 census entry ??? again a patient wait for the marriage certificate.

Hmm the man is just home again, haven't cooked his dinner again have I :-* :-*. Woops had better go scramble some eggs so I can settle him for the night. Guess where I will be.

And, now I can narrow down the time frame for Hubert my great grandfather emigrating to NZ, he married in 1906, so must have come over between 1903 and then.

Again, my very grateful thanks for all the help.

Hi there I am descended from John Morgan & Ellen Finnery like the author Kiwigirl of this message board. Unfortunately my fathers line is the only line in Australia with Children still with the Morgan surname.  Hubert and Henry Morgan seem to have left Australia around 1903 immigrating to Dannervirke. Over time the NZ family and Aust families have lost contact. My Father now in his 70's and myself would very much like to make contact with other Related Morgan's in NZ. We are descended from Nicholas Morgan and Catherine Eason. We have a Photo of John & Ellen Finnerty & I have been researching the history. John & family came to Aust in 1863 as an assisted immigrant hired as a gardener by the Hopkins family of "Wormbete" Winchelsea a major land owner in district. John's father Hugh 1799-1850 & Wife Agnes 1803-1866 worked in the cotton mills in Manchester. Agnes Hardman's father was Arthur Hardman & Elizabeth Widdows. It appears Morgans, Hardmans & Finnerty have links to Chorlton Upon Medlock (Outer district of Manchester). The Finnerties were Irish from Edenderry and Jane Finnerty (sister or Cousin) was a servant in Chorlton. John Morgan has a sister Elizabeth living with mother Agnes in 1841 (aged 13) who lived next door to John & Ellen Morgan. Much more too if Interested.

My Great Great Auntie was Theresa. Do you have any photo's or stories of Her life of for that matter any of the other children of John and Ellen Morgan. I am particularly interested in her life growing up at Winchlesea with her parents. My father and I would be most interested if you do. My Great Grandfather Nicholas was a council road works supervisor and acquired this job threw his father John who also worked in this area for a time. My father tells me Nicholas worked on the construction of sections of the great ocean road which is a major tourist attraction in Victoria. Nicholas married the Catherine Eason who was the sister of a Famous Geelong Football Club Family-Alex and Bill Eason. My late Grandfather spend many days cheering on his Uncles at Football. Alex is in the Team of the Century for Geelong (on the interchange). Both captioned Geelong and played for Victoria aswell.

Would love to here the stories of the other children.

Regards

Ross Morgan

HI, MY GREAT GRANDFATHER WAS NICHOLAS MORGAN.  HIS SON GEORGE WAS MY GRANDFATHER, GEORGE NICHOLAS MORGAN BORN 3 APRIL 1904.  HE HAD A SON ALAN JOHN MORGAN WHO PASSED AWAY ABOUT 2012.  ALAN HAD AN ADOPTED SON JULIAN MORGAN.  GEORGE’S BROTHER WAS ALAN MORGAN.  HE HAD A SON NOEL BUT I DON’T KNOW MUCH MORE ABOUT THAT SIDE OF THE FAMILY UNFORTUNATELY.  I WAS INTERESTED TO FIND OUT MORE REGARDING NICHOLAS MORGAN’S ROLE IN CONSTRUCTING THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD.  I WAS ALWAYS TOLD THAT HE WAS ONE OF THE FOREMEN.
