Yeomans
« on: Sunday 16 November 08 05:12 GMT (UK) »
John Yeomans b 1821 married Ann Alsop 1839 St Alkmunds, Duffield.
They came to Australia in 1861 with 6 children John 18, Anne 14, Mary 11, William 10,Elizabeth 8, Arthur 4.
We believe some other children died in England.
How would we find out who they were, and where they would be buried ?

Hello,

There are several ways to start looking.

In which country did they die? If in Australia a death certificate should list all their children both lioving (with an age) and deceased in birth order.

This at least will give you names and approximate years in which to startt looking.
From  Free BMD Ifound many Yeomans listed between 1839 and 1861 for Derbyshire. For Belper the clostest to Duffield I could find by googling at least 63 Yeomans/yeoman deaths registered in those years.

There is a Peter Charles Yeomans in the IGI listed as born to John Yeomans and Ann Alsop in 1860. and also a birth and death of Hnery John Yeoamans in Derby  in 1847-1848 to John And Ann  in Derby.

Several other christenings and contributed births of offspring to this couple can also be found.

Have you found them in the Derbyshire censuses? In 1851 John is a police officer age 30 in Derby, born Derby. Wife Ann also 30 is from Wirksworth. Her sister Mary Alsop 33 is with them, as are their children John 9,   Ann 5, Mary 2, and William (4 months).

Thanks so much for all the replies.
We have them in 1851.
We had found the details on the IGI.

We know Australian death certificates give children living and dead, but it depends on the informant, and if they did not know about the ones left behind in England, the details may not be there.
