Applegrove Cottage: COMPLETED THANKS
« on: Sunday 16 November 08 15:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Does anyone know if there was an 'Applegrove Cottage' on the site of Applegrove Primary?
My ancestor, 'Bella McIntosh McDonald' was born in 'Applegrove Cott, Forres' in 1892. I have googled 'Applegrove' to find on map of Forres and only find Primary school. Anyone in Forres have knowledge please? Thanks

Hello 'Broons'

As you know roughly where to look it might be an idea to try the link below.  Zoom in and then make sure to click the 'Historical' tab on the right hand side.  The closer you zoom, the view will change - as the map does.  Good luck.

Regards, Steve   :O)

Hi Broons,

Almost certainly.

If you go to the National Library of Scotland maps site, and the map for Forres (from 1868) in particular:

http://www.nls.uk/maps/townplans/forres.html

Then click on the rectangle at the bottom centre right near where it says "church," (roll the mouse over the area to see some numbers: X.8.25) you will get another window open which shows Applegrove Cottage in the orchard near the bottom.  You can zoom in to see it better.

Be warned, depending on where you click in that rectangle you may not get to where you need to be, but keep trying.    The new window should have some numbers at the top:  74415815.sid

You might also like to look at the details for it on libndx.moray.gov.uk. under places. There is quite a lot of information.
