To Old at 28 ?
« on: Sunday 16 November 08 23:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello ,
My grandfather was born 1886,he would have been aged 28 in 1914,would he have been to old to have served WW1?.
As far as am aware he had no medical reason not to serve,notrade/profession that would have kept him on home service.
He married in 1917 and his occupation at time of marriage is a Motor Wagon Driver.
My mother(born 1917) didnt know why he never served in WW1,only that he didnt serve in WW1.
He died in 1963 .
Cheers
Dolly.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply - I guess age may have not been the reason, as your grt.grandfather would have been 40.
I do wonder if he may have been a objector to the War.

Cheers

I've seen some service records where they were rejected for 'bad teeth' and the like.
Try searching for ww1 records on ancestry, maybe there is some inkling there.

Hi,

Have you checked the Army records to see if any papers survived? One of my ancestors was rejected for medical reasons; problems with his feet I think!

Hi,
I have searched the WW1 records on Ancestry etc for my grandfather,up to now nothing shows.
I did find a  WW1 record for a grt Uncle who did volunteer in WW1 and did not pass the medical, due to being partial deaf.
Two other grt uncles served in the war,one killed in action in 1917,the other survived and was discharged in 1919.

Cheers
Dolly.

Hi,

Don't forget that only 40% or so of WW1 service papers survived the bombing in WW2.
