I've just looked at two of the early maps on the site link that I gave - 1741 Williaqm Edgar and the 1775 Mostyn Armstrong and I can';t find anything that fits  :(

Thanks once again, Gadget.
As you said in a previous posting, it's quite likely that the place might not even be on an old map but your continued efforts are much appreciated

I'd say Inglestoun. I live in the Parish of Newlands and have never heard of it.
I do have The History of Peeblesshire Vols 1,11,111 which I'll check out

Thanks Mrs A

I'm ashamed to admit it but I made a mistake when I said Newlands. On looking through my records Jean Murray was born in Dolphinton, Lanarkshire while the rest of her brothers & sisters were born in West Linton, Peebles.

I've had a look at various old maps but haven't been able to see an Inglestoun although Bridge End is clear as part of Dolphinton.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Isn't that part of Edinburgh & not at Bridge End in Dolphinton?

Could it possibly now be known as Inglestone?  Seems it's somewhere in the Borders area?  I googed Inglestoun and that was what came up asking if I meant that.

I've tried googling Inglestoun & Inglestone but can't find anything in the area of Bridge End in Dolphinton.  I've also tried to find any info on Wm Telfair (John Murray's employer) at Inglestoun but without success.  It may be that there isn't any entry on a map for this place.

Thanks - Binkie

i wonder if INGRASTON could be the place your looking for.  it is a farm situated between west linton and dolphington.
