Newbee looking for Fox family Ysceifiog.
« on: Monday 17 November 08 23:15 GMT (UK) »
Hello all.
My maternal Grandfather was Edward Wynne Fox born in Ysceifiog in about 1854, His Father was William Fox listed as Farmer (deceased) in1871, Mother Alice born circa 1810 also in Ysceifiog. Edward had a brother Samuel. At some time pre  1871 they moved to Holywell.
My current hunt is for details on William, year born and Parents details, also where the Wynne comes from as it was passed down to my mothers oldest sister.
Any information.....including how to pronounce Ysceifiog would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards, Barum.

1841 census
HO107/1412 40 14 3
Ysceifiog
Tannoners?

William Fox, 25, Blacksmith
Peter Fox, 20, Butcher
Eliza Price, 28, Female servant

All born in county

The only other people called Fox in Ysceifiog are these 3 - I wouldn't be surprised if they were William's parents and sister:

1841
HO107/1412/40 5 4
Ysceifiog, Flintshire
Samuel Fox, 65, Butcher
Jane, 60
Margaret, 15, Female Servant

All born in county.

I use a pay site to access the 1851 census. Which site is Roots?  :)

I subscribe to Roots uk.com and the genalogist.co.uk, as i say neither could find them in the 1851 census, similarly free bmd could not find the marriage.

Indeed - Alice hasn't been transcribed yet. I checked the complete index to find her :)

Incredibly I've never heard of Roots UK!
