If John and Elizabeth are illegitimate then you have no proof that Robert is their father - it is just conjecture and the fact that he mentions William in his will would tend to imply that he is not.
I am concerned that there are two Roberts - one born Cockermouth and one born Harrington.  Both married to an Ann.  Possibilities for muddling the two are high!

:) :)
Thank you very much Mair,
It was a good read, and the pictures were great,
unfortunately the only thing I couldn't do was open the
page to get me in to the All St Site.
I think I am Jinxed with seeing things about this
family name,I tried to have a look at some photos
The Whitehaven Beacon had of some Lowdens, and once again the
only pictures I could not see were the ones about Lowdens.
I contacted them and got a very prompt and polite reply, saying
they had no Curator at this time, and hoped to employ
one before Christmas.

Hi Andrea,
Thanks for your concerns,I agree I have no Idea who was  the father of John,or Elizabeth. I think I was more trying to make a point that I had a connection between Robert and Ann Gibbons, when I wrote that,I think I might have worded what I wanted to say rather badly and I  apologize.
Williams Certificate says born 17 Sept 1874 William /Boy/Father Robert Lowden, mother Ann Lowden
formerly Gibbons. So I do have the right Ann.
To back this up further I have managed to make contact with two of my Grandfathers,----sisters----Granddaughters,the first thing I was told was Robert walked from Cumberland  to Northumberland.
We have photos of the Gibbons sisters.
Thank you for taking the time to read my postings.I will try and be clearer from now on.

Hi Shirley..Not sure if this info will get you any further. My GG grandfather was Robert Lowden  the DOB I have is 1840 died 1909,.married to Annie Gibbons, 1845 to 1907. Annie's Father was Thomas Gibbons  1809 to 1879 and mother Sarah Robson , Thomas father was also Thomas  1780 to 1840 and Jane Dawson. My line on the tree runs from Robert and Annie, through Mary Hannah to Annie Margaret (my Grandmother) she was a Kegg and married a Linaker, my Grandfather. We are very distantly related. (I am also kn Australia)..Pam
