Noone's family history is boring.

I have to do more mundane things today but if nobdy else picks this thread up, I'll get back to it as soon as I can and see if I can do any more for you. Unfortunately, I live in South Cumbria rather than North, otherwise I'd be able to get to the relevant records offices.

Keep digging and you will get there eventually,

Jen

I have found in the 1881 census a Sarah Lowden widow age 64 living in St Helens St [Wide yard ] Cockermouth.
Living with her is her unmarried son Thomas age 26,and unmarried daughter Hannah age 24,and her grandson John James aged 3 years.
Sarah lives three doors away from James Lowdon age 32, and his wife and family, the ages and first names fit,but not the spelling of the surname,to confuse things even more, there is a Joseph Lowden age 36, and his wife and family living in the next house to James, are all these people related.Have I followed the wrong Sarah Lowden.Any suggestions where to try next. :-[ :-[

This is a complicated one, isn't it Shirley?  :-\

He never gives Cockermouth as his birthplace therefore I'm not too keen on claiming a Cockermouth family yours without any hard evidence.

Now I've searched census for other Lowd*ns born Harrington and there don't seem to be any. Harrington would register in Whitehaven I believe so I searched BMD for Lowdons in Whitehaven and the earliest birth I could find was a Jane Lowdon in 1847. I think I've spotted her in 1861 with parents Thomas and Jane, both old enough to have had a son about 1843, but I'm unable to find the family in 1851 to see if they have a Robert with them  :(

They were Thos LOUDEN and family in 1851 (no suitable son) :(
