Unbelievable.
I'm open jawed at all this.
This will explain something my mum and her sister have puzzled over for years.

My Aunt still owns the family house at 70 xxxx St.  I was there just 2 weeks ago installing her new telly.

Can I ask you to remove the full address though please Shelley.  I'm sure you appreciate why.

Dave

At 2.20am Pat, I'm hoping mum is tucked up in her bed.  I'll phone her tomorrow though.  I'll see her and my aunt on Saturday so I'll print everything off to show them.

Here's a link to the "Megantic"

The script below the picture is really interesting.

Must look for more tomorrow (later today!).  In the meantime, I really need to go to my kip.

Address fixed.

One final tidbit -

In IRS Tax Assessment lists for New Jersey, Dist. 5 (not sure whereabouts that is) for 1866:
Borthwick, James, address: 198 Meadow, income of $180, rate of tax - 5, total 9.00

Hi Dave: A minor point about the last residence of Thomas and Violet Borthwick. It's Lakehurst, New Jersey--next door to the Naval Air Station where the German airship Hindenburg caught fire.

I checked burial records of a few cemeteries in Ocean County, New Jersey but found no Borthwicks buried there.

You can go to the following url for the Ocean County, New Jersey page of the USGenweb Project for links to cemeteries and other resources

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~njocean/research.html

I checked MSN White Pages and found Borthwicks currently living in Manchester Township, Ocean County. Manchester Township surrounds Lakehurst.  http://msn.whitepages.com/

For a map of Ocean County, with municpalities marked, go here
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0d/Manchester_twp_nj_029.png

Vital records are annoyingly difficult to get from the state of New Jersey unless one is next of kin, and even then it's difficult.

Regards,
John  :o :o :o

P.S. Hope you had an enjoyable time at the Glasgow Meet. I wanted to come, but living on the wrong side of the Atlantic (70 miles or so northeast of Lakehurst, NJ) makes it difficult. Next time, I have the perfect group activity for the folks who show up: finding my great grandfather Robert Hendry. His wife was raised in Bridgeton on what used to be called Adelphi St. and is now Muslin or Poplin St. I think he was in Glasgow too.

Another interesting and useful reply John.  Thank you.

I've sent you a PM about your Hendry family.  I'll be happy to try and help.
