1871 cencus look up please
« on: Thursday 20 November 08 21:50 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone find me Francis Curran and his wife Alison Blest or Blessington on the 1871 cencus please?
I have  their son, John Curran Blest living with his grandparents, Myles and Bridget Blest in West Fenton, Dirleton, but cannot locate them.
I have Alison, born C. Leitrim, Ireland, abt.1844. She and  Francis  married Sept 12th,1870, in Haddington, but I have no idea of his age or where he was born. Their son was born may 3rd 1869.
  Thanks,
    Pat.

Pat

Struggling to find them together on 1871 but there is a birth of a further daughter showing for them:

BRIDGET CURRAN  Birth: 17 JUN 1871 in Dirleton, East Lothian
Parents: FRANCIS CURRAN and ALICE BLIST

It would be worthwhile you looking at that marriage cert in 1870 on line at Scotlands People. It will include Francis' age, occupation and parents' names including mother's maiden name.

The birth cert. for Bridget will also include an address which may help with the searches for 1871.

:'( Daughter Bridget may have died shortly after birth.  There is a death showing in Dirleton in 1871 for a child with that name born that year.

Did son John also die young? There is another death for a John showing in Dirleton in 1874, born 1869.

Thanks Monica,
That's the right family in 1881.
The birth of Bridget I hadn't found, but as Alice's mother was called Bridget, it sounds likely.I also hadn't found John dying young, but again, it is quite possible.
As I know nothing about Francis, I haven't a clue as to where he might be, and on the 1881 census Alison is listed as married, not widowed? :-
Alison (Alice) had 2 sisters, Catherine, born in Dirleton about1853 ,and Mary, born in Ireland about 1842. They are all on the 1861 census in West Fenton, Dirleton, where Alison appears as Helen. I can't find either marriages  or census entries for either of these two girls. Their brother, John,  named on the 1881 census was my Gt grandfather, who was in Ireland  for the 1891 census, then in Burton-on trent , Staffordshire in 1901.
  Cheers,
       Pat.

Then maybe the MC is a good place to start finding out about him. There are a number of Francis Currans (with different spellings) in later censuses but hard to know if they could be him without having an idea on his age and occupation.
