My experience of 4 BT Home hubs over the years is that they are pretty robust, so I think the problem would be at the laptop end. Did the wireless connection on your laptop come as 'built in' or did you install it separately?  The built in ones are usually pretty robust.

Me being a numpty, I'm not sure what you mean by receiver?  Is that the D-link thingy that's sticking out the side?

Dave  ???

Ahaaa !  If that "thingy" is USB, it's probably the USB ports that are going into power saving mode !  :)

Hi Daval,
Bit late to reply but other devices such as cordless phones and microwaves, and other people's wireless networks can create interference and cause your wireless connection to drop.  Sometimes changing the channel on your wireless router (I'm not familiar with the BT wireless hub but a user manual might tell you) can help.
Here is an interesting article which may tell you more:

I'd be interested if this helps. ....I had this problem ALL the time in my last apartment. I "fixed" it by moving..... :)

Do you connect both computers through a surge protector?
As you live in a tenement it probably has old wiring. Over the years this will have many high resistance connection points that could cause surges when others in the tenements switch appliances on or off.

These surges could be enough to cause lost of signal.

That's interesting!  We lose connection, often about 6pm in the evening and sometimes at other "busy" times.  The surge explanation might make perfect sense as our electricity dips if any one of four houses uses a major electrial appliance (shower, kettle etc.).  This is the actual supply to the houses which doesn't surge quite enough for the electricity board to do anything about it.

That is interesting - we had power issues at my place as well.

Perhaps a surge suppressor or UPS might help then.

Guy, you're making a lot of sense!
